Emmanuel Dining Room helps alleviate the needs of Delaware’s hungry. The progam operates at three locations in Wilmington and New Castle. St. Mary's supports EDR East and EDR South. In a normal year, the guest are seated in a clean dining room and served a nutritious meal. An average of 550 meals are served everyday, all are welcome.
St. Mary's generous parishioners provide over 150 sandwiches, 15 gallons of pasta salad and dozens of canned fruit or bags of fresh fruit. Sometimes, volunteers provide cookies and snacks. The EDR welcomes donations of any kind.
Sandwiches:
We ask that you make at least 12 sandwiches. Sandwiches should be fresh, individually wrapped, and of generous size..... The sandwich is the largest portion of the meal and should be enough to satisfy a persons hunger. (no peanut butter and jelly please). Label the outside of the bag with the kind of sandwich you prepared. Mark the bag EDR East or EDR South.
Can or Fresh Fruit:
Each volunteer provides 10/20 oz. cans of fruit or fresh bagged fruit or the equivelent in fruit cups. There really is no limit to this, we ask that you provide enough for 12 people.
Pasta:
We also prepared 15 pounds of pasta salad in three 5-gallon containers. The coordinator provides the container. Any pasta salad is accepted at this time. In the future, it is our hope that we can get more involvement with this and could make smaller batches for easier handling. Recipe will be provided.
Donations are picked up by a volunteer driving twice a month on the designated day, no later than 9:00am. Donations should be delivered to St. Mary's kitchen before 9:00am or on the evening prior, you may deliver to St. Mary's kitchen during business hours, or after 5:00pm at the office entrance foyer. There will be an insulated cooler for collection.
